Squirrel Feeder does it’s Job!!!

21st Jun 2019

A red squirrel was spotted on Wednesday 19th June at one of the new squirrel feeders made by our Primary Seven Pupils. Ulster Wildlife Red Squirrel Officer Shannon, assisted P7 pupils in building their very own squirrel feeders out of planks of wood on return from their "Squirrel Walk" in Kilbroney Park. P7 pupils look to have enjoyed the whole experience and with Shannon’s help, found the perfect location for their feeders within our school grounds. Representatives from each class can be seen placing sunflower seeds in the feeder which has attracted our red squirrel back into the school grounds this time during BREAKTIME as the pupils were out in the school yard. He is getting more daring! Perhaps our school ‘s wildlife corridor will become the best location for pupils to get a glimpse of our red squirrel. Isn’t it wonderful to feel we are providing a home for nature by encouraging wildlife into our school grounds.

Following the siting of the squirrel, we placed a "Trail Camera" close to one of the new feeders and we have managed to capture video of our new friend visiting for a snack! Check out the video footage.
