Obair den Scoth! Primary 5 Explore Trócaire, Lent and Courage in School Assembly
Today our Primary 5 pupils led a wonderful assembly, helping our school community to learn more about Trócaire; who they are and the important work they do to support people in need around the world.
During the assembly, we explored the meaning of Lent and why it is a special time for reflection. We focused on three key areas: prayer, helping others and sacrifice and discussed practical ways we can live these out in our daily lives both in school and at home.
We then introduced our focus value for this month: Courage. The children shared how we can demonstrate courage in our school by:
• Trying something new in our learning, even if we are worried about making mistakes.
• Putting our hand up to answer a question or share an idea.
• Standing up for what is right, especially if we see someone being treated unfairly.
• Including others who may feel lonely or left out.
• Saying sorry and telling the truth, even when it is hard.
• Keeping going when work feels challenging and not giving up.
• Asking for help when we need it, as this also takes courage.
Over the next four weeks, we will be recognising pupils and staff who demonstrate courage in our school community.
We also celebrated our Gradam an Phríomhoide award, which was presented to Ellie for being an excellent role model of Respect. So far this year, we have focused on the values of Kindness, Empathy, Resilience, Respect, and now Courage. Our whole school community is very proud of the efforts everyone is making to live out these important values.
The assembly concluded with celebrations of our Réalta na Seachtaine winners, birthday acknowledgements, and our traditional hymn practice.
