Little Earth Heroes in Primary 2

1st Apr 2026

Primary 2 pupils have been busy learning how they can care for our planet as part of their World Around Us topic, Little Earth Heroes.

As part of this topic, the children explored the importance of recycling and sustainability, learning how everyday materials can be reused instead of thrown away. To put their learning into action, the children took part in a hands‑on activity to create their own recycled seed paper.

First, the children ripped up old paper into small pieces, helping them understand how waste materials can be broken down and reused. The paper was then soaked in water to soften it before being blended into a smooth pulp. Once ready, flower seeds were mixed through the pulp, preparing it to be planted and grown.

The recycled seed paper was then pressed into Easter‑themed moulds and left to dry. The children then created Easter baskets to hold their seed paper which made the perfect gift for someone at home.

Once planted in soil, the seed paper will grow into flowers – a lovely way to remind us that small actions can make a big difference to our environment.

This engaging activity supported learning across the curriculum while also developing creativity, teamwork and environmental responsibility. The children were extremely proud of their work and enjoyed becoming real Little Earth Heroes. Maith sibh, Rang a Dó!
