Lá Spraoí - Celebrating Our Scoil na Bliana Win!

1st May 2026

We had an amazing Lá Spraoí in school as we celebrated winning Scoil na Bliana as part of the Scoil Spreagtha scheme. It was a brilliant day full of craic, Péil, Gaeilge agus ceol, a real reflection of everything that makes our school so special.

We were delighted to welcome Conor Laverty to our assembly. He spoke to the children about his own experiences with Irish and shared a special memory from the biggest day of his football career, when he used his cúpla focal on the steps of the Hogan Stand after lifting the Andy Merrigan Cup in 2022. His message was simple but powerful: don’t give up, and keep practising whatever it is you want to get better at, whether that’s football, Irish, dancing, boxing, spellings or numeracy and be proud to use our bits and pieces of Irish.

After the assembly, Conor, along with Declan Morgan and Danny Magill, spent time out on the pitch coaching the children. This was a real highlight of the day and something the pupils absolutely loved.

We also welcomed Caitlin Mhic Naois from Gael Linn, who was full of praise for our páistí. She was really impressed with their confidence in speaking Irish, and also commented on the warm, fun atmosphere around the school.

A big thank you to Caitlin, Ruairí O’Donnain and Mrs Poland for leading a fantastic Céilí, and to Mrs Gordon who, as always, encourages the use of our teanga dhúchais right across the school.

It was a great day of spraoí and a perfect way to celebrate such a brilliant achievement. We’re very proud of everyone involved!
