🌳 Orchards for schools 🌳

12th Mar 2024

On Monday March 11th, we had a fruit-filled adventure helping to plant an orchard at St. Colman’s Primary School, Saval. Our Eco-council travelled to Saval to partner with them to create an orchard within their school grounds.
The orchard consists of: a Conference Pear, a Plum, an Apple Elestar, an Apple Cox and a Pear William. The pupils of St. Bronagh’s Eco-council joined forces with St. Colman’s Eco-pupils to dig, position, plant and cover the young roots of the  trees that will leave a trace of our teamwork to help us both retain our green flags. We didn’t realise how much fun it would be digging, planting and getting muddy. It was such an enjoyable experience for all. The Saval pupils treated us to an enjoyable play in their playground. They showed us their water butt, polytunnel and proudly pointed out where they positioned their bird boxes!

Thank you to Ben Ryan from ‘ Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful’ for sending us the information about the ‘Tree Council’s Orchard for Schools Project.’ We are looking forward to a fruitful future. 🍎🍏🍐
