What a day we had at the Kilbroney Centre!

30th Mar 2019

P4 had a fantastic day with the P4/5 class from Dromore Rd Primary School on their Shared Ed Trip to the Kilbroney Centre in Rostrevor.

Not only were we able to spend the whole day outdoors in the sun and fresh air, but we enjoyed native bird calls, observed mini beasts in their natural habitats, and we also discovered the harmful effects that the careless use of chemicals can have on our wildlife, when we investigated what caused the death of a little robin.

The children enjoyed catching up with their friends from Dromore Rd Primary School and we will continue to work together through an online collaboration, designing shelters and feeding stations to attract more wildlife to our school grounds.

A big thank you to Liz Farnan, our local Environmental Educator, for organising a great day for us in the wonderful Kilbroney Centre.

And great news...because a red squirrel was actually spotted in our school grounds by some very vigilant P7s, Liz is going to apply for St Bronagh's PS to get its very own red squirrel box to help the re-population of the native red squirrel in our local area! This all came about because we spotted an acrobatic red squirrel high up in the trees at the Kilbroney Centre! We can't wait to get back to school to tell Mrs Downey and the Eco-council all about it!
